Thought of the day:
Really want to try photography. Though I've never been the kind of guy to take pictures of everything, I do enjoy seeing a nice photograph. Maybe its an itch to buy a new toy or maybe I just feel like trying something new. Regardless, it'll be a while before I purchase my first camera for the purpose of taking good photos. Still, that hasn't stopped me from doing some research. Therefore, I'm wondering whether I should get a DSLR or ILC. Many blogs show potential pros and cons for both as an entry level camera, but I guess I'll just have to keep reading. Like I said, its gonna be a while.

Intro
As a 2nd installment I really have no idea what to write about, so I've decided to do a quick intro of my background. Whether this will be a fruitful writing/reading experience or not...we'll just have to see where it leads....bare with me:
I'm what you call an American Born Chinese, or an ABC, and unless you really prefer it, a Banana (you know, cause i'm yellow on the outside and white on the inside...) However, despite my birthplace, I grew up in Taiwan (no, I don't mean Thailand and nor am I Thai you moron). Taiwan is this small island off the coast of China, north of the Philippines, and south of Japan. Like many other small islands, Taiwan has a messed up sense of politics (I mean really, what can you do about it? Small islands always gets pushed around by neighboring continents). Still, if one can push politics aside, its a beautiful island, foods great, lots to do, and people are genuinely nice (if they're from the south ;) ).
Luckily, my parents were far from traditional Chinese parents. Though they held expectations, I was relatively free to make my own choices in life (though it did take my mom a bit to accept the fact that I wasn't gonna be a doctor...sorry ma). Still, that didn't stop me from absorbing a lot of chinese cultural traditions and perspectives. Therefore, when I got back to the states, I actually had a hard time adjusting and even getting along with any other ABC that grew up here in the States. (Before I go on, I just want to say that I don't hate on other ABCs and I actually have a couple of really good friends that "are" ABCs. What is said in the following is strictly my personal view)
Truth be told, first impression of most other ABCs in Minnesota were pretty disappointing. Not only did most of them not speak Chinese, the lot of them seemed to belittle true international students from China or Taiwan (I really do dislike the word FOB). Still, the worst part for me is most ABCs don't, or choose not too, speak Chinese. I mean, its your heritage, where you are from, your history. Shouldn't it be an honor to learn and speak it fluently? Granted, we live in America, and here we speak English, but I have yet to meet a Mexican kid that grew up here and not know how to speak Spanish. Again, this is just me thinking out loud on the internet. Like I said, I don't hate on ABCs and I have friends that are ABCs and some of them really don't speak Chinese. Of course, on the flip side, I do also dislike international students that come here and choose to only stick with other international students. It baffles me to see how they can end up spending 4 years in college yet manage not having to speak an ounce of English in those four years (Though to be honest, the future is in China.......time to invest in Chairman Mao t-shirts?)
Anyways, what was supposed to be somewhat of an intro turned into somewhat of a rant. Trust me, I've been told many times that I'll be the grumpy old man that never leaves his house and has a sign saying "Stay off the Lawn!" The sad part is, that might just be true if I don't learn to enjoy the little things more and be less sensitive about these sorts of things. Truth is, how other people choose to behave cannot be my problem. I am me, and I can only be responsible for my own behaviors, decisions, and actions.

In the hopes of finding something new
So begins my blog, January 29th, 2013. This is my second attempt in trying to keep an account of the most current events in my life while sharing whatever thought or reflection I might have. My first attempt was when I moved to the states by myself in '04. My girlfriend then (now ex, but still have allowed myself to be relevant in her life because I am pathetic that way...thankfully my girlfriend now doesn't mind, god bless her soul) gave me a diary before I left Taiwan. At the time I thought, "What a wonderful gift! I can write drafts of letters to her everyday..." What an idiot! A helpless romantic I know. Of course, seeing that she is now my ex one can guess what happens next; I burned that ridiculous excuse of a diary and lit my cigarette with it (as you can tell, not only am I a helpless romantic, I can also be a drama queen; too much television i suppose).
Anyways, past is past and now here I am, inspired by a friend and figured it would be a good idea to start blogging. I kind of like the idea of reorganizing my thoughts at the end of the day. It was after reading his blogs that I realized reorganizing something old may sometimes lead to the discovering of something new. So here I am, beginning my journey of reorganizing in hopes of finding something new. The biggest challenge would be to continue this everyday...
Challenge accepted!
